50th Anniversary - Sept. 13, 2003

NC&StL Engine #576 was moved into Centennial Park on September 13, 1953.

To commemorate the event, NCPS members gathered at the park to pay homage to this magnificant machine. We couldn't have asked for better weather! People started to gather while setting up the displays, and continued to join us throughout the event.
The highlight of the event was meeting three former NC&StL employees who had worked on 576. Brownie Spicer, Bill Carroll and Leonard Wood. All had amazing stories to share!

Door prize winners included:

David & Lorrie Palmer; Wally Pilkinton: tickets to TCRM's Watertown Hoedown train that evening, dontated by TCRM.

Brownie Spicer: an autographed copy of the book "Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis - a History of the Dixie Line" by Dain Schult.

Joey Bryan: a deck of NC&StL playing cards (reproduction), donated by Tom Harrison.

And several other lucky folks won t-shirts, hats, magnets, etc. donated by the Society.

As one attendee said:

"Anyone who missed the picnic on Saturday missed a priceless opportunity
to hear more about 576 from the men who knew firsthand, a meet and
greet wirh some fine folks, and some first rate models..."
